Govt pushing labourers into economic slavery: Cong

Govt pushing labourers into economic slavery: Cong

New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Calling the 12-hour shift system for factory workers and the new conditions put in at workplaces anti-labourer, the Congress on Monday accused the government of allegedly pushing the hard workers towards 'economic slavery'.

Party leader Randeep Surjewala said here in a statement that the government is coming up with new ways of exploiting the labourers and making them slaves on the economic front. For this, the laws are being amended, alleged Mr Surjewala.

He said in the name of bringing change in the labour laws, new laws have been brought in, forcing the workers to work in a tougher atmosphere.

The government is promoting the exploitation of workers and benefiting the capitalists through a law made on the condition of safety and work at the workplace, Mr Surjewala alleged.

According to the new law, workers will be forced to work for 12-hour shifts and factory owners will be able to

make them work as per their wish.

The Congress leader said that due to the new rules, unemployment will increase in the country and 41 lakh people will be unemployed in the organised sector.
