Relaxation norms on merger of schools also applicable in KBK districts: Minister

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (UNI) The relaxation of norms for merger of Primary and Upper
Primary with low enrollment with the larger schools would also be applicable to KBK
districts in Odisha, School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Ranjan Dash today
clarified in the Assembly.
The Minister had yesterday stated that schools in scheduled areas would be merged
with bigger schools if they have less than 15 students.
Earlier the government had decided to merge schools where the student strength was
less than 20 students.
Mr Dash gave the clarification after Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader Narasingha
Mishra urged the Speaker to direct the Minister to clarify whether the relaxation of norms
would be implemented in KBK districts or not.
Mr Mishra raised the issue soon after the house met in the post lunch session .
The CLP leader while participating in the debate on a motion moved by the government
Chief Whip Pramila Mallick had demanded not to merge the schools in Scheduled areas
and in the KBK districts.
Mr Jay Narayan Mishra (BJP) demanded the government to implement relaxation of norms
in the educationally backward districts .
