Serbia's Ministry for Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications has announced that the first contracts with telecom operators have been signed to provide 5,500 households in 34 rural settlements with broadband internet access. The settlements are in the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Prijepolje, Gornji Milanovac, Vladicin Han, Knjazevac, Valjevo, Loznica, Ljubovije and Backa Topola.
The contracts signed with Telekom Srbija, Orion Telekom, SBB and Sat-Trakt are the result of the first in a series of public calls to operators. The first phase of the project involves 600 settlements with about 90,000 households and should be completed in 2022.
