Gurgaon: As the wedding season in the city picks a pace, Gurgaon police have issued
challans and notices to 40 different banquets and other venue owners for the violation of social distancing norms and people not wearing masks at the functions.
A special team has been formed by the police under police commissioner KK Rao and these teams are inspecting all the venues, including banquet halls and open-air venues, where weddings or other social gatherings are scheduled to take place.
“While the norms were being followed at most places, around 40 challans have been issued for not wearing masks and the violations of social distancing norms between Friday and Saturday,” said Subhash Boken, police spokesperson. Along with the challans, the owners and managers of the venues were also issued notices stating that their venues will be sealed if they were found in violation of the social distancing norms for the second time.
The police teams have been directed to ensure that everyone at the venue is wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and sanitising their hands at the venues. “Besides the banquet owners have also been asked to submit a list of the events scheduled for the next week with the nearest police station with a prospective list of guests,” Boken told TOI.
The teams will continue to inspect the venues and community centres as long as the wedding season continues. The cops have also appealed to the residents and those coming from outside to avoid wedding functions and other social gatherings as much as possible in order to stop the spread of novel coronavirus.
This comes even as reports of possible lockdown was doing rounds in the national capital. Haryana home minister Anil Vij took to Twitter to say that it is up to the people to decide. They can either choose wearing masks or a lockdown. The number of Covid-19 cases in Haryana have touched 9.1 million of which around 8.52 million cases have recovered.
