Synopsis

The newer thematic funds may be interesting and promising concepts, but have not yet established credentials as dependable, long-term strategies. Experts insist this leap into untested waters of newer themes amounts to adventurism.

Investor love for new or differentiated ideas is on full display. In October, thematic funds attracted the highest inflows, more than any other equity fund category. A chunk of the Rs 4,064 crore was deployed in new offerings ICICI Prudential ESG and Aditya Birla Sun Life Special Opportunities. Even as a soaring market has seen equity fund investors pulling money out over the past few months, this category has been garnering steady inflows.
