He was associated with tourism for over 20 years and his eagerness in the sector made him inquisitive in sharing knowledge about conservation and tourism.
Introduced in 2016 by African Safari Veterans, Natural Selection is a conservation-minded company based in Namibia and Botswana in South Africa. Every year, it donates 1, 5% of its revenue for conservation.
Karaerua has explained that this is the opportune time to reflect on the tourism sector and the harmful effects it went through during the lockdown sessions in the initial eight months of 2020.
“I am sure everybody has realized the importance of tourism by now,” he said mentioning that keeping in mind the 1, 6 million arrivals to Namibia a year almost a two-third of the population of the country, playing a significant role in the economy.
He said that everybody has been impacted by tourism, starting right from tour operators to lawyers, and building companies and any sector that relies on tourism one way or another.
“Tourism is everybody’s business” he quoted what deputy prime minister Nandi Nandi-Ndaitwah when she was environment and tourism minister, saying they must be treated well.
“Those who rob tourists are actually robbing the country’s economy because their action results a reduction in tourist arrivals, with dire ripple effects,” he added.
The accountability to keep the tourists safeguarded lies with every person because it is everybody’s business, said Karaerua.
