Spanish telecommunications infrastructure operator Cellnex has signed a 10-year bilateral power purchase agreement (PPA) with Endesa, the Iberian Peninsula’s leading electrical utility, to receive 300 GWh a year for its domestic activities. The deal converts Endesa into the preferred supplier of 100 percent of Cellnex’s energy in Spain for the next 10 years, with the companies also joining forces to achieve new decarbonisation goals. In that regard, Cellnex said a minimum of 20 percent of the contracted energy will be 100 percent produced from renewables.
The contract was agreed and signed by the CEOs of both companies, Jose Bogas for Endesa, and Tobias Martinez for Cellnex, with the latter commenting that the agreement “reinforces our partnership with Endesa in energy supply while also committing to specific objectives in the area of renewable energy and promoting the energy transition that allows us to achieve the objectives of reducing our carbon footprint and our impact on climate change.”
In that regard, Cellnex last year joined the Science Based Target (SBT) initiative to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and backed the commitment to contain global temperature rises at 1.5°C.
