Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Doesn't Include the Chrysler Building

Players have made an interesting discovery about the recently-released Spider-Man: Miles Morales. According to Game Informer, the rendition of New York in Miles Morales is missing one of the most prominent features of the New York City skyline: the Chrysler Building.

According to Game Informer, the building has gone through a change in ownership back in 2019, and a new agreement to feature the building in Miles Morales wasn't made in time. Thanks to this, going to the spot in the game where you'd spot the Chrysler Building shows, you'll see just a regular nondescript skyscraper.

"If you have just a basic box of a building that looks like just a generic building, you can't go around and sue every building in Manhattan, and say, 'You have stolen my idea of what a building looks like,'" said Lee Law founder Michael Lee to Game Informer. "You can't protect the functionality of something, but you could protect the artistic parts of it. So when it comes to certain architecture, whether it has big spires at the top, or whether it has curved glass, whether you see something and you see that it's unique and different, that's absolutely protected by copyright. So in order to reproduce it in either another building or make a derivative work such as a T-shirt, a model, or even putting it in a video game, you need authorization from the copyright owner to reproduce the protected thing – which in this case could be the Chrysler Building."

Interestingly, the building is still visible in the PlayStation 5 version of the original Marvel's Spider-Man. For more information on Miles Morales, check out our review and Should You Buy.
