BJP workers demonstrate against high electricity bills with bonfire in Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Nov 23 (UNI) Angry over the state power utility charging inflated electricity bills from consumers for the period during the lockdown, the district unit workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a demonstration and lit bonfire of excessive electricity bills in front of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) here.
The BJP workers, led by district president Rahul Chikode, gathered in front of Mahavitaran office this evening and staged demonstration amidst sloganeering against the state government for its failure to remit the high electricity bills of the consumers. They also lit the bonfire of these electricity bills.
While addressing the party workers, Mr Chikode said that Mahavitran has charged wrong electricity bills to consumers for the lockdown period, which they were not in a position to pay.
People were not in position to pay these inflated bills due to financial losses suffered during the lockdown period, he added and appealed the people to contact local BJP office if Mahavitaran employees came to cut their electric connection.
