MNS leader shot dead over cluster, claims party president

Thane, Nov 23 (UNI) A leader of the Maharashtra Navanirman Sena, (MNS) from the city’s Rabodi area was on Monday shot dead by some unidentified persons the police said.

The police said that the Ward president of the MNS Jameel Shaikh, was shot at by some unidentified persons in the Rabodi locality following which he was rushed to the private hospital here.

The doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.

He was 49, the reports said.

The DCP Zone I Avinash Ambure told newsmen that the MNS office-bearer who was traveling in Rabodi fell down near the Bismillah hotel and was rushed to the private hospital here where the doctors declared him brought dead. His body is sent to JJ for a postmortem and the postmortem report was still awaited he said. He said that the exact cause of death would be known only after the report is out he said.

Meanwhile on account of the tension prevalent in Rabodi area the police bandobast has been stepped up since evening.

The Thane and Palghar district Chief of the MNS Avinash Jadhav in strong words condemned the killing of Jameel. He said that this was the third such incident in Thane district and the earlier ones had taken place in Ambernath and Ulhasnagar where the MNS office bearers were killed.

When the officer was asked about the letter by the victim to the police fearing for his life the officer said that the police were examining from all angles and once the postmortem report is available the things will be clear he said.

He brushed aside the question if the victim has been fired at by the accused persons, and said that all angles are being examined as of now now.

He did not not reply as to the motive behind the killing and repeatedly said that the police were awaiting the post-mortem report after which all the things will be clear and the media would be informed.

He also said that in today’s incident the police have laid their hands on the CCTV footage of the spot where two persons have been identified.

He has been killed over the issue of the development of cluster he claimed and said that the victim was educating the residents on the clusters.

Earlier also in 2017, an attempt had been made on his life and he was subject to attack and the police area yet arrest the accused in the earlier the case he said.

Jadhav said that the police should arrest the accused persons at the earliest
His body has been sent to the JJ Hospital for a postmortem the MNS sources said and further details are awaited.
