GURUGRAM: A 49-year-old doctor attached to Medanta Hospital allegedly killed himself by injecting a poisonous liquid at his home in Sector on Saturday night.
The doctor’s father has lodged a police complaint, alleging that his son was disturbed over his wife’s affair with another man.
A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the doctor’s wife, a principal of a city school, and the man with whom she is apparently in a relationship.
Police said the doctor, who was attached to the intensive care unit of the hospital, was with his wife and daughter at home when he injected himself. His daughter had gone to his room to give tea when she found him lying motionless. When he did not respond to repeated calls, the daughter called her mother. Neighbours took the doctor to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
According to the complaint lodged by the doctor’s father, his son had a love marriage 22 years ago. “His wife was having an affair with someone, my son had told me. This had been going on for around for three years. My son was extremely depressed because of this,” his father said in the complaint.
The case was registered against the doctor’s wife and her lover under Section 306 of the IPC, accounting for abetment to suicide.
“We have registered a complaint according to the statement given by the doctor’s father. We are investigating the matter,” said an officer of Sector 50 police station.
Officials at the Civil Hospital said there were no marks of injury on the doctor’s body. The body has been sent to a lab to ascertain the substance he had injected.
Meanwhile, the police have found a note written with a marker on the almirah of the house, saying “I will always love you”.
This is the second such alleged suicide in a few months. In September this year, another doctor from the same hospital had jumped to death from an 8th-floor balcony. The 49-year-old doctor was going through a divorce when he took the extreme step. However, the cops did not confirm the exact reason behind the alleged suicide and there was no note left behind.
