First lady of Odisha Sushila Devi dies of Covid complications

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (UNI) Sushila Devi, the wife of Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal died in a private hospital here following post-COVID complications. She was 74.

Raj Bhawan sources here today said the First Lady of Odisha breathed her last while undergoing treatment last night.

She was born on December 6, 1946, at Hisar in Haryana and married to Prof Lal on July 1, 1964.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons.

As per the reports she along with the Governor and some others in the Governor’s house were tested Corona positive and admitted to hospital on November 1 last.

While the Governor and the other employees were recovered and discharged from the hospital, the doctors despite their best efforts could not save the life of the First Lady of the state.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his profound grief over the death and expressed his sympathies to Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal.

Taking to Twitter Mr Patnaik said “ Deeply saddened to learn about passing away of First Lady of the state, Smt Sushila Devi. She was very warm and pious person, the Chief Minister said and conveyed his deep sympathy to “ Honourable@GovernorOdisha Prof Ganeshi Lal Ji and family members. May her soul rest in peace,” Mr Patnaik said.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Pradesh Congress President Niranjan also mourned the demise of the First Lady of the state.

In his condolence message, the Union minister said he was shocked to learn about the death of Sushila Devi. He prayed Lord Jagannath to give enough strength and patience to the bereaved family during this time of grief and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
