Low pressure to intensify as Cyclonic storm, to cross TN/Pondy coast on Nov 25

Chennai, Nov 22 (UNI) The well marked low pressure area
over the bay would concentrate into a depression and intensify
further into a cyclonic storm and cross the coast between
Mahabalipuram, about 55 km from here, and Karaikal in
Puducherry on November 25.
The Met office has issued a Red Alert for Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry and Karaikal on November 25.
A bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department
(IMD) on Sunday said the well marked lower pressure area
over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal
persists over the same region.
''It is very likely to concentrate into a depression over
Southwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours and intensify
further into cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours'',
it said.
It is very likely to move northwestwards and cross the
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and
Mahabalipuram around November 25 noon/afternoon, the
IMD said.
Under its influence, the rainfall activity is likely to increase
over south peninsular India from November 23 onwards
with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, besides
thunderstorm activity over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and
Karaikal from November 24 to 26 and over south Coastal
Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana on
November 25 and 26.
Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also very likely over
Tamilnadu and Puducherry on November 24 and 25 and
over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema on
November 25 and 26. and over Telangana on November 26.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph
and gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over equatorial
Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts of South Bay of
Bengal.
It is likely to increase with wind speed of the order of
45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph, over Southwest
and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and
off Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts tomorrow
and of the order of 55-65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph, over
the same area and also along and off South Andhra
Pradesh coast and over Gulf of Mannar on November 24.
It is very likely to increase gradually becoming 80-90
kmph, gusting 100 kmph, over southwest Bay of Bengal
and along and off Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts
around the region of landfall on November 25.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph
and gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail over Andhra
Pradesh coast on November 25.
The sea condition will be rough to very rough over
wquatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts
of South Bay of Bengal. Southwest and adjoining
west-central Bay of Bengal and along and off Tamil
Nadu and Puducherry coasts tomorrow and very rough
to high over southwest and adjoining west-central
bay of bengal and along and off Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts and
also over Gulf of Mannar on November 24 and 25.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea
over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of
Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and along and off Tamil
Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh
coasts from today till November 25.
Also the fishermen in sea are advised to return to
the coast by today.
