Centre to rush high level teams to HP, Punjab, UP for Covid response

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Even as India’s present active caseload of 4,40,962 declined to 4.85 per cent of the total positive cases, the Centre has decided to depute high level Central teams to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh which have been reporting a rise in daily new cases.

The three-member teams will visit the districts reporting high number of Covid cases and support the state's efforts towards strengthening containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention and control measures, and efficient clinical management of the positive cases.

The Central teams, which shall also guide in effectively managing the challenges related to timely diagnosis and follow up, had earlier sent the high level teams to Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Manipur, and Chhattisgarh.

A whopping 76.45 per cent of the 501 deaths reported in the past 24 hours were from 10 states/UTs -- 22.16 per cent were from Delhi which reported 111 deaths, an official releases here said.

Meanwhile, the 4.85 per cent decline in India's present active caseload of the total Positive Cases has been sustained below the 5 per cent mark. The recovery rate was up at 93.69 per cent today as the country registered 43,493 new recoveries in the past 24 hours taking the total to 85,21,617 recovered cases.

The gap between recovered and active cases at present stands at 80,80,655 with 26 states/UTs having less than 20,000 active cases.

Seven states/UTs have active cases between 20,000 and 50,000 whereas Maharashtra and Kerala are reporting more than 50,000 caseload.

As much as 77.68 per cent of the new recovered cases is being contributed by 10 states/UTs.

Delhi saw 6,963 persons recovering from Covid followed by Kerala and Maharashtra which reported 6,719 and 4,088 new recoveries respectively.

Ten states/UTs have contributed 76.81 per cent of the new cases. In the past 24 hours, 45,209 persons were found to be infected with Covid.

Delhi reported 5,879 cases in the last 24 hours while Kerala recorded 5,772 new cases and Maharashtra 5,760 daily cases yesterday.

Fifteen states and UTs are reporting less than the national average of cases per million population.

Of the 501 deaths reported, Maharashtra saw a fatality count of 62 while West Bengal reported 53.

Thirteen states and UTs are reporting higher than the national average of fatality rate of 1.46 per cent whereas, 21 states and UTs are reporting lower than the national average of deaths per million at 96.

Fourteen states and UTs have more deaths per million population than the national average (96).
