Two sadhus died under mysterious circumstances while the third was admitted to a hospital in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh after they consumed tea at an ashram on Saturday. The bodies of two sadhus -- Gulab Singh and Shyam Sundar -- have been sent for postmortem.
Mathura SSP Gaurav Grover said while 60-year-old Gulab Singh died on the spot, Sadhu Shyam Sundar, 61, was declared brought dead by doctors at the district hospital.
The third sadhu, identified as Ram Babu, is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, he said. SSP Gaurav Grover added that an investigation into the case has been launched to determine the cause of their deaths.
A forensic team is also collecting evidence at the ashram where the two sadhus died after consuming tea, he said.
Deceased Gulab Singh hailed from Dalauta village under the Kosi Kalan police station, while Shyam Sundar and Ram Babu are residents of Paintha village under the Goverdhan police station.
The brother of deceased Gopal Das has alleged that the sadhus were poisoned inside the ashram.
District officer Sarvagya Ram Mishra told India Today TV, "We got the information that two sadhus died here at the ashram and one is in a critical condition. The SSP has done a terrestrial inspection and the bodies of the two sadhus who died have been sent for postmortem."
An investigation has been initiated in the case and so far, no one has been arrested.
