Five chain snathers nabbed

Thane, Nov 21 (UNI) In a major drive against the chain snatchers the Crime Branch unit of Navi Mumbai police arrested five chain snatchers and detected as many as 20 cases of chain snatching the police said.
Addressing a news conference at the Navi Mumbai Police Headquarters the Police Commissioner Bipin Kumar Singh on Friday told newsmen that the number of cases of chain snatching was on the rise during the lockdown period.
The police carefully studied the cases of chain snatching from all angles and decided to go in for prevention of such cases and also decided on a major crackdown.
During the drive the police arrested as many as five accused were habitual chain snatchers of them three were from Govandi of Mumbai.
He said that during their interrogation the police detected as many as 20 cases of chain snatching and recovered stolen property worth Rs. 20 lakhs from them.
The properties that were recovered related to the chain snatching cases in the limits of the police stations of Kamote, Nerul, Sanpada, Rabale, Khandeshwar, NRI, Kalamboli, Vashi, and Kharghar and related to offenses under sections 392 rw 34 the police said.
The police also seized two motorbikes used by them for the offenses of chain snatching the police said.
The police commissioner further said that the cases of chain snatching were not not only cases of snatching they have sentiments attached to it he said.
The police gave the names of the arrested as Tanvir Mohammad Ibrahim Shaikh @ Deepak, 22, Akhil Sharif Khan, 25, ( taxi driver), Tashruf Baidhur Rahman Shaikh, @ Raja, 22 all from Mankhurd, Shabnam Shabbir Shaikh, 25, Hawker, Panvel and Harun Lala Sayyed, 23, Rickshaw Driver Panvel.
