GURUGRAM: Groups of residents across various townships, condominiums and colonies in the city have decided to go on a two-day hunger strike from November 30, demanding action against a senior government official for his alleged involvement in corruption during his stint as the district registrar of societies and firms in Gurugram.
In a letter to the Haryana chief minister and top bureaucrats, the residents from several societies such as Mayfield Garden, Suncity and Ambience Lagoon Apartments have demanded that all orders passed by Ishwar Singh Yadav as the district registrar be reviewed by a high-level government team. They have also accused the official of “inaction” and “collusion” that has allowed corruption in the running of many RWAs in the city. The signatories have not only called for a review of all Yadav’s orders by a special investigation team (SIT) but also demanded that he be either suspended or relieved of his duties as the current joint director of the district industries centre in Gurugram till the investigation against him is complete.
Deepak Hans, a resident of Suncity said, “How can this be possible for any government employee to be posted in the same district for 20 years? In March this year, he was transferred to Nuh but again posted back here as the joint director of the district industries centre within a few months. The government revoked his transfer order on October 14. However, he has not yet relinquished his post.”
“The government should order a probe and file an FIR under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988,” he said, adding that they had sought permission from the Gurugram deputy commissioner to hold the symbolic hunger strike.
Apart from the residents, some mall association members have alleged that Yadav has set up a group of auditors who on his direction would prepare frivolous reports and give clean chits to RWAs accused of misappropriation of funds. “Even in the appointment of enquiry officers, returning officers and the administrators, corrupt practices have been prevalent,” said Yogesh Saini, a shop owner in Central Plaza Mall.
However, when contacted Yadav refuted the allegations as “baseless and self-motivated”. “This is nothing but a sheer pressure tactic on the government. Everyone has the right to write to any authority,” he said.
