Kerala reports 6,028 Covid-19 cases, 28 deaths; test positivity rate nears 10%

THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The state, on Friday, witnessed 6,028 new Covid-19 cases. In the last 24 hours, 60,365 samples were tested and the test positivity rate is 9.98%.
The total infected patients in the state has touched 5,51,669 of which 4,81,718 people have been cured of Covid-19 while 67,831 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.
Among the new cases reported, 5,923 contracted the disease through local transmission and source of infection was unknown in 654 of them. Fifty-six healthcare personnel were among those infected on Friday. And 105 people who were tested had come to from other states or abroad. A total of 57,49,016 samples have been sent for testing till now.
At the same time, 6,398 patients recovered from the disease. Meanwhile, 28 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid-19 and the related death toll has reached 1,998 in the state. As many as 852 infected people are admitted in ICUs of different hospitals and 211 are on ventilator support.
Malappuram reported highest number of cases (1,054) followed by Kozhikode (691), Thirssur (653), Palakkad (573), Ernakulam (554), Kollam (509), Kottayam (423), Alappuzha (395), Thiruvananthapuram (393), Kannur (251), Pathanamthitta (174), Kasaragod (138), Wayanad (135) and Idukki (85).
Three new hotspots were demarcated on Friday in Ernakulam, Idukki and Palakkad districts even as 11 areas were excluded. Presently, there are 557 hotspots in the state.
