Pelosi hopes McConnell's 'pause' on virus aid ends

As Americans prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said the holiday will also be marked "with great pain" over the lives lost to coronavirus and urged Republicans to pass bipartisan relief aid. (Nov. 20)

NANCY PELOSI: This year, we won't be able to be joining each other in the traditional way. But virtually, we'll come together to thank God for our blessings. As we do so, though, it will be with great pain-- great pain that in our country, in the course of this year, 250,000 Americans have lost their lives to the coronavirus. We are in a full-blown economic and health catastrophe. And it is amazing to see the patience the GOP has for other people's suffering.

Over six months ago when we passed the HEROES Act, Leader McConnell said we need to pause. We need to pause. Well, I would hope that for him, the pause can come to an end. Nearly 200,000 people have died during that pause. So we're asking him, come back to the table.

The latter issue is where Biden "may have to give something up to McConnell that we really don't want to give up to get" a deal, "but we simply have to do this," another person close to the transition team said. The case has echoes of that of Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman who spent ten years on death row in Pakistan on trumped-up blasphemy charges.

On a conference call with Trump officials on Friday, when the subject arose of which member of Trump's outside legal team would attend the White House meeting, Axios reports this planning quickly "fell apart" when it was revealed that Giuliani's son tested positive and it subsequently became clear that "the entire Giuliani-affiliated legal team was probably exposed."
