Kerala reports 5,772 new COVID cases, 6,719 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 21 (UNI) COVID-19 was confirmed in 5,772 people in Kerala on Saturday while 6,719 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
The Minister, in a statement here this evening, said: "Of the positive cases reported today, 4,989 people including 53 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the source of infection was unknown for 639.
Meanwhile, 25 deaths were confirmed today as due to Covid, taking the related death toll in the state to 2,022, she added.
She said 60,210 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.59 per cent. A total of 58,09,226 samples have so far been sent for testing.
The district-wise numbers for those who tested positive today are Ernakulam 797, Malappuram 764, Kozhikode 710, Thrissur 483, Palakkad 478, Kollam 464, Kottayam 423, Thiruvananthapuram 399, Alappuzha 383, Pathanamthitta 216, Kannur 211, Idukki 188, Wayanad 152 and Kasaragod 104. Of those diagnosed, 91 persons have travelled to the state from outside.
The figures for the locally transmitted cases in the districts are Ernakulam 609, Malappuram 733, Kozhikode 668, Thrissur 464, Palakkad 269, Kollam 458, Kottayam 419, Thiruvananthapuram 271, Alappuzha 375, Pathanamthitta 165, Kannur 166, Idukki 160, Wayanad 141 and Kasargod 91.
The count of the infected medical personnel from the districts are Ernakulam 11, Kannur 10; Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta & Kasaragod 5 each, Palakkad & Wayanad 4 each, Thrissur & Kozhikode 3 each, Malappuram 2 and Kottayam 1.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 609, Kollam 681, Pathanamthitta 167, Alappuzha 919, Kottayam 271, Idukki 72, Ernakulam 658, Thrissur 680, Palakkad 590, Malappuram 740, Kozhikode 622, Wayanad 79, Kannur 473 and Kasaragod 158.
So far, 4,88,437 people have been cured of Covid in Kerala while 66,856 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.
There are currently 3,18,079 people under isolation in various districts of the state - 3,01,749 under home or institutional quarantine and 16,330 in hospitals. Total 1,846 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Six new hotspots were demarcated today while three areas were excluded. Presently, there are 560 hotspots in the State.
