Domestic airlines carried 52.71 lakh passengers in October 2020, declining by 57% compared to 123.16 lakh passengers carried in the same month a year ago.
Overall in 2020, the airlines have carried 493.31 lakhs passengers, half of what it carried in the corresponding of the previous year. Between January - October 2019, airlines had carried 1182.06 lakhs passengers.
Thereby, currently this year, domestic air traffic is down by 58.27% annually.
In the passenger load factors (PLF),
Indigo saw a rise to 61.8% in October 2020 versus 65.4% in September 2020.
SpiceJet also saw an increase in PLF to 74% in October 2020 against 73% in the previous month.
PLF stood at 62.1% for Air India, 61.8% for GoAir, 63% for AirAsia and 65.2% for Vistara in October 2020. Except for Vistara, all these airlines saw a rise in their PLF on the month-on-month basis.
Civil Aviation ministry said, "The passenger load factor in the month of Oct 2020 has shown some recovery due to increased demand after the opening of Lockdown and onset of the festive season."
In October this year, the overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines has been 2.62%.
In terms of market share, Indigo continues to maintain leadership with a share of 55.5% in October, followed by SpiceJet with a market share of 13.4%, Air India with 9.4% share, GoAir with 7.5% share, Air Aisa with 7.1% share and Vistara with 6.4% share.
While Indigo and Vistara saw a gradual drop in market share compared to September 2020 where it stood at 57.5% and 6.6%, on the other hand, GoAir and AirAsia saw an increase in their market share where it stood at 6.7% and 6% respectively.
Remaining airlines market share remained unchanged.
