GURUGRAM: The city, which was conducting around 4,000 tests daily, witnessed the highest single-day
testing —6,036 — on Thursday. An official said the step is timely as
Covid-19 cases are surging in the region.
The health authorities have collected 6,036 samples for testing on Thursday. T4hese include 1,475 antigen tests and 4,561 RT(PCR) tests. The health department has received 10,000 new antigen testing kits, according to a health official.
Gurgaon has a capacity to conduct 1,200 RT(PCR) tests in a day at government facilities, whereas private labs can carry out 14,870 RT(PCR) tests. The city can conduct even 16,000 RT(PCR) tests in a single day, if required. “We have identified crowded areas where we will be conducting targeted testing in mornings and evenings. We have received 10,000 antigen kits now. This will help increase our pace in contact tracing and treatment procedures,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.
On Thursday, 645
new Covid cases were recorded in the city. The Covid-19 tally stands at 41,825 now. The health department said 543 people recovered on Wednesday, taking the total number of recoveries to 36,029.
Meanwhile, another official said three people succumbed to the infection on Thursday. Till date, 253 people have died of Covid-19, of whom 197 had comorbidities. The district has been witnessing a rise in Covid
cases again since October 21. The daily positivity rate is around 15% as the number has been rising daily.
On Thursday, 60 people were sent to institutional quarantine facilities. The district has a total of 5,543 active cases, of which 5,110 are in home isolation. So far, 4,29,162 people have been put under surveillance. The health department has sent 4,25,846 samples for testing.
