Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has cracked the shortlist for the vacant EP Elephants head coaching position, along with four other candidates.
Easter Province Rugby Union (EPRU) confirmed on Friday that De Villiers was shortlisted alongside former Springbok backline players Ricardo Laubscher (who assisted Heyneke Meyer at the Boks between 2012 and 2015) and Deon Kayser.
Added to the strong candidates list is Varsity Cup-winning former North West University Pukke head coach Jonathan Mokuena, as well as former UCT Ikeys head coach Kevin Musikanth.
De Villiers, who succeeded Jake White in the Springbok hot seat in 2008 to 2011, was also linked with the Southern Kings head coaching job last year that was never filled on a permanent basis.
"Our independent panel is delighted with the number and quality of candidates who have shown interest in being part of the Eastern Province vision for the upcoming season," said EPRU independent panel chairman Maasdorp Cannon.
EPRU parted ways with their most recent head coach Chumani Booi, who has since joined the Pumas Rugby Institute as the academy's head coach in Nelspruit.
Interviews for the EP Elephants head coach job will commence on 2 December.
