SEC needs no consent of Govt to hold local polls: Ramakrishnudu

Vijayawada, Nov 20 (UNI) Telugu Desam party senior leader former Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu accused the Jagan Mohan Reddy headed Government of undermining the election related laws as well as the Constitution of India by challenging the autonomy of the State Election Commissioner (SEC).
Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that the SEC was an independent Constitutional institution whose authority and decision-making cannot be questioned by anybody else. The YCP regime's non-cooperation amounted to violation of the Constitution itself.
In a statement here on Friday, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that the Government's non-cooperation was in the nature of violating the Article 243 K and 243 Z (A). The strange arguments of the YCP rule were indeed unfortunate and unacceptable. The SEC was required to consult the Government but that does not mean he should take consent before holding the polls.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu asserted that such a meaningless Government and such a reverse Chief Minister was never seen before in the history of the State. The Jagan regime was expecting the State Election Commission to take its consent to hold the elections. Even though the courts passed orders against the controversial decisions, the Government was not respecting the judicial orders.
“The Chief Minister is literally playing games with the Courts and the Constitutional institutions. The SEC is not being allowed to function independently”, he slammed
Stating that nepotism and favouritism were ruling the roost in AP, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that Chief Minister Jagan Reddy's rule was like that of the defeated Donal Trump in the US. While Trump violated the American laws, Jagan Reddy undermined the laws of the Indian Constitution. The AP Chief Secretary has no authority to tell the SEC that the elections cannot be held.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu asserted that the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary had no moral right to interfere with the decisions of the Election Commission. Undermining the Constitution and misuse of powers amounted to murder of democracy.
“Jagan Reddy was totally afraid of his party's certain defeat if the local polls are held in a free and fair manner”, he said and demanded that the forcible unanimous elections made in the past should be cancelled and fresh elections be held to ensure a vibrant democracy.
