Hyderabad: Countering the State BJP’s claim of the Centre extending huge assistance to Telangana State, TRS working president K T Rama Rao said the BJP government was discriminative towards the State in extending financial and other assistance.

In the last six years, the State government’s contribution to the Central kitty was over Rs 2.77 lakh crore in the form of taxes, he said, adding that what the State got in return was only Rs 1.40 lakh crore. “This too was through Finance Commission devolution and Telangana rightful share,” he said.

“When Telangana is not even getting 50 per cent of its contribution to the Centre, how can that be considered as Centre’s assistance. If any support is extended that is beyond what the Constitution permits, or from the Central government’s share, then it can be called assistance” he said.

Speaking of the partisan attitude of the BJP government, he pointed out that the Karnataka government got Central assistance within four days of the floods that the State witnessed, but when it comes to Telangana, there has been no response from the Union government to the State government’s pleas even after six weeks. “People should take into consideration all these factors and take a wise decision before casting their vote,” he said.
