The Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training is mulling to establish at least 19 industrial training institutes (ITIs) in the state. This was stated by Cabinet Minister Charanjit Singh Channi after laying the foundation stone of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Industrial Training Institute at Bassian village near here on Wednesday.
Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh Boparai chaired the function held on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering, Channi said per the directions of CM Capt Amarinder Singh ITIs are being set up in Raikot, Khera, Amloh, Shri Hargobindpur, Bhikhi, Dinanagar, Patran, Ghanaur, Lohian, Gandiwind, Mehraj, Ram Tirath, Shri Chamkaur Sahib, Balachaur, Machhiwara, Mamdot and Kharar segments.
He informed that the ITI at Bassian village, being set up with the efforts of Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr Amar Singh Boparai, would be constructed with an estimated cost of around Rs7 crore. “An estimate has been prepared for renovation and alteration of the existing building with approximate cost of Rs3.39 crore and equipment and fixtures would be with the remaining amount of around Rs3.6 crore,” said Channi maintaining that the department had already sent a case for creation of 35 posts after getting approval from the Finance Department.
Channi assured that the classes with capacity of 220 students would start within a year. Computer hardware and networking, electronics, mechanics, machinists, welder and surveyor were cited among trades to be taught.
A Skill Development Centre and Apprenticeship Scheme Centre will also be associated with the ITI.
Dr Boparai thanked the CM and MLA Channi for the ITI, which would help a large number of youth of the region in getting industrial training. Boparai said several industries were coming up in the area and with the functioning of the ITI, the industry would also get skilled hands.

Kumar Saurabh Raj, Director, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Punjab; Additional Director Daljit Kaur, Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta and Chairman Sukhpal Singh Gondwal were among others present on the occasion.
