Siddipet: Siddipet Collector P Venkatrami Reddy said that Siddipet district could bag the World Toilet Day award due to the sincere efforts of Gram Panchayat staff and elected representatives of local bodies.
After accepting the award during a virtual ceremony from Union Minister of Jalashakthi Gajendra Singh Shekawat, the Collector said that they were selected for the award due to their committed efforts under Swachha Bharath Mission Gramin. Saying that Siddipet was among the 20 districts in entire country selected for the award apart from Peddapalli district in Telangana, Reddy said that they had improved the segregation of dry and wet garbages and also utilisation of toilets in rural parts. Ch Gopal Rao, Project Director, District Rural Development Organsaition, Sureshababu, District Panchayath Officer, have partcipated in the virtual ceremony while the Union Minister addressed them from the New Delhi.
Under the leadership of Cheif Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Finance Minister T Harish Rao, the Collector said, they have given utmost priority to Swachha programmes, adding, they have built a record over 34,000 toilets during the first phase of Swachha Bharath Mission in 2017. Saying that they have declared Siddipet as Open Defecation Free by building a record 27,000 toilets in a year, he said that they have been carrying out the second phase of Swachha Bharat programme in a much committed way by conducting Palle Pragathi programmes. As many as 42,800 soak pits and 670 community toilets apart from 3,224 cattle sheds have been built, he added.
The Collector, who said the award has enhanced their responsibility, appealed to the people and public representatives of Siddipet district to put a collective effort to make the district a model in cleanliness and hygiene.
