Tanda Rape: Next hearing on November 25

Hoshiarpur: The court of Additional Sessions Judge Neelam Arora on Wednesday fixed November 25 as the next date for hearing in the 6-year-old girl’s rape and murder case. The case was heard through videoconferencing. Bikramjit Singh, in-charge of the Tanda police station, was present on the orders of the court. Meanwhile, in response to the application filed on behalf of the accused, the police replied in writing to the court that neither the house of the accused has been sealed nor locked. One of the accused (the grandfather) Surjit Singh was produced through videoconferencing from jail, during which the authorities told that the second accused, Surpreet Singh, was still undergoing treatment at a hospital in Amritsar. A copy of the challan presented in the court was given to the accused’s lawyer. A bail application was presented on behalf of the accused party by their lawyer. The court would consider his bail plea on November 25. OC

Man nabbed with 200-gm opium

Garhshankar: The police have arrested a person, allegedly involved in smuggling, and recovered 200-gram opium from him on Wednesday. SHO Garhshankar Iqbal Singh said the Beniwal outpost in-charge Satwinder Singh was patrolling near Hajipur village with his team, when he saw a person standing in suspicious condition. When SI Satwinder Singh tried to talk to him, he started running away, but was nabbed. When questioned, he disclosed his identity as Manjit Singh, a resident of Denowal Khurd village. SHO Iqbal Singh said when searched, two hundred gram of opium was recovered from the accused. He said that a case had been registered against the accused and further interrogation was on. OC
