India votes against Ukraine-sponsored resolution in the United Nations


India has voted against a Ukraine-sponsored resolution in the United Nations condemning alleged human rights violations in Crimea backing previous ally Russia on the difficulty.

The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday adopted the Ukraine-sponsored resolution that condemned alleged human rights violations in Crimea. The resolution was supported by 63 international locations and 22 opposed it, ET has learnt. In all, 85 abstained on the event.

India, in addition to Russia, was a part of the block of twenty-two international locations that opposed the resolution. China too opposed the resolution. Apart from the US, a number of European states backed the resolution. However, various international locations from throughout continents abstained from voting.

Russia’s deputy everlasting envoy to UN, Gennady Kuzmin, stated “the resolution co-authors had been trying to punish Crimea’s population for their free choice in favour of Russia by shedding “crocodile tears” about Crimeans.”
