New Delhi: The Joint Admissions Board (JAB), the body that makes decisions related to admissions at the IITs, is scheduled to hold a meeting on 21 November where syllabus revision for JEE Advanced will be among the matters discussed, ThePrint has learnt.
The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced is meant for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
According to the agenda for the JAB meeting, a copy of which has been reviewed by ThePrint, syllabus revision is one of the main points the JAB will discuss.
The revision is being undertaken to factor in the changes introduced in the Class 12 syllabus for mathematics, chemistry and physics by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2019. The revised syllabus — which eliminated repetitions in the curriculum — was taught to students in 2020.
This revision was decided much before the board reduced the syllabus for 2020 by almost 30 per cent on account of the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘Panel’s recommendations will drive decision’
Directors of all the IITs, senior officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts exams for higher education institutes, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), that oversees technical education India, will be a part of the JAB meeting.
Senior IIT officials who are privy to the development confirmed to ThePrint that the matter of syllabus revision will be taken up at the meeting. According to the sources, after the CBSE tweaked the syllabus last year, a committee was formed to look into the changes.
“Revision of the JEE advanced syllabus will be undertaken in line with the suggestions of the committee,” said one of the sources.
Once approved by the JAB, the new syllabus could come into effect by 2021.
Among other things, the meeting Saturday will also see IIT-Kharagpur handed over the responsibility of holding JEE Advanced 2021. Each year, a different IIT branch is given the responsibility of holding JEE Advanced. For 2020, it was IIT-Delhi.
