Latest Covid-19 numbers: 20 556 deaths, 757 144 cases and a 92.6% recovery rate

South Africa recorded 123 more Covid-19-related deaths by Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 20 556.

Of the 123 deaths, 17 reportedly occurred in the past 24 hours: four in the Eastern Cape, two in Gauteng and 11 in the Western Cape.

"We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients," Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

There have been 2 888 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total infections to 757 144.

The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 5 189 580, with 28 703 new tests conducted since the last report.

Recoveries are now 701 534, which translates to a recovery rate of 92.6%.
