DEHRADUN: The Uttarakhand education department has announced that the entrance exam for the diploma in elementary education (D.El.Ed) is going to be conducted on December 4. The exams will take place across 29 cities of the state and will be held at 184 centres. More than 40,000 candidates are expected to write the exams.

The exam was to be conducted in March, but was postponed due to the Covid-induced lockdown. At that time, the exam was to be conducted in 123 centres, but now it has been increased to 184 in order to comply with Covid-19 guidelines.

Meanwhile, several candidates who had passed the D.El.Ed exam in the previous years and then later completed the two-year-long course were protesting against the government for not being appointed as primary teachers in the government-run schools. They recently called off their protest after the education department’s assurance of appointing them soon.
