Country is uniquely placed to leap ahead in Information era: Modi

Bengaluru, Nov 19(UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said it is time for tech solutions designed in India to be deployed for the world and that the country is uniquely positioned to leap ahead in the information era.

Addressing the three-day Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 (BTS2020) virtually, Modi said, the country is at a sweet spot and it is time for tech solutions that are designed in India to be deployed for the world.

"India as a country is uniquely positioned to leap ahead in the information era. We have the best minds as well as the biggest market. Our local tech solutions have the potential to go global," he said.

Stating that his government's policy decisions are always aimed at liberalising the tech and innovations industry, Mr Modi said, 'Recently we have eased the compliance burden on the IT industry in various ways, besides we have always tried to engage with stakeholders in the tech industry and chart out future policy framework for India'.

The Prime Minister also noted that today Digital India has become a way of life particularly for the poor, marginalised and for those in government.

'Thanks to Digital India our nation has witnessed a more human-centric approach to development. Using technology on such a large scale had brought about several life changes for our citizens," he said.

Stating that his government has successfully created a market for digital and tech solutions, but it has made technology a key part of all schemes, Mr Modi said, 'Our governance model is technology first.

"Through technology, we have enhanced human dignity. Millions of farmers receive monetary support in one click, at the peak of Covid-19 lockdown it was technology that ensured that India's poor received proper and quick assistance. The scale of this relief has few parallels," he added.

As PM Modi said, we have unlimited possibilities for innovation. In partnership with India, Australia will work on cyber-enabled technologies.

BHIM Unified Payment Interface helped common people make easy cash-less transactions. Digital payments recorded Rs 2 billion transactions. Also, drone technology is being used to map land and fertiliser delivery, which will help farmers save money and time.

He said that "Our resilient technology industry was able to overcome difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and enabled employees to work from home and from anywhere. This has become a new norm and is going to stay. We will see a high amount of tech adoption in education, agriculture and other sectors".

Thanks to Digital technology, India has been able to scale up faster in service delivery to people across the country.

Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the government was able to help citizens through Ayushman Bharat for medical assistance efficiently thanks to digital technology, he said.

Stating that Five years ago, his government started the Digital India initiative to transform citizen's life in terms of ease of work, service delivery, and now, he said that it has become a way of life in the country. Particularly, it has brought a lot of big changes and the benefits are everyone to see.

Maintaining that India has a clear advantage when it comes to Innovation, the Prime minister said that "Because of the talent and zeal of the Indian youth to innovate. The potential of our youth is endless. I am confident our IT sector will keep making us proud".

Opening that when it comes to technology, the way ahead lies in learning and growing together, the prime minister said that " Inspired by that approach, a number of incubation centers are opening in India. Over the last few years, a great culture of hackathons has developed in India. I have attended some of them too. Our young minds come together and think of ways to solve key challenges our country and planet faces".

Similar hackathons have been help in collaboration with Singapore and ASEAN nations. The Government of India is providing support to our vibrant start-up community, whose skill and success are now world famous, he added.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison who participated virtually said that the countries like Australia and India with common roots with respect to democracy and vision for technology will help people lead better lives.

The three-day mega tech event, which is largest in the Asia continent, was participated by the representatives from 25 countries, over 250 exhibitors, 4000 delegates and over 20000 business visitors.
