Hyderabad: TRS working president and Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said the installed capacity of power generation companies in the State, will be increased from the existing 16,000 MW to 24,000 MW. He emphasised the need for increasing the power generation capacity to cater to the future needs of the State.

Addressing the ‘Meet the Press’ event organised by the Press Club of Hyderabad here on Thursday, Rama Rao said Telangana was a power deficit State when it was formed. He recalled how the Centre meted out injustice to the State and merged seven mandals of erstwhile Khammam district along with the Sileru hydel power plant having 450 MW capacity with Andhra Pradesh without even informing the Telangana government. “We started our journey there. But we are a power surplus State today. We have increased our solar power generation capacity from 45 MW to 5,000 MW,” he said.

The Minister said though many people were unable to understand the importance of uninterrupted power supply, it was essential for Hyderabad city which has scores of MSMEs providing livelihood for thousands of workers.

“Earlier governments implemented power holidays for two days per week. But today, we are able to supply uninterrupted power to several companies at Cherlapally or Suraram and other areas, enabling them to work round-the-clock and provide more jobs,” he said. He pointed out that several multi national companies too were investing in Hyderabad due to uninterrupted and quality power supply.
