My COVID story: Even after testing negative, my cough and COVID-like fatigue remain

My name is Jitendra Singh and I live in Mumbai with my wife, 6-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter.
On 31st October, I received a Whatsapp from one of my colleagues from the office that he had tested positive for COVID. The moment brought a bit of shock and after I could recollect my thoughts, I realised that he looked unwell in office with cough. I had last met him on 28th October and was positive that I would not have got the infection since I had my mask on when we met.

Then came my birthday on 2nd November and after the party, I started to feel chills and also developed mild cough. I thought maybe it was the after effects of a late night party and took crocin and decided to rest. However, on the 3rd when i did not get better, I decided to wait for one more day and then go for testing, in case my health does not improve. On 4th November I woke up and after realising my situation had not improved, I went straight to the testing centre. The results do not come on the same day but the reality stuck when when my positive test was confirmed by the next day. Thus started the mental fatigue which was finally relieved a little bit once the test results of my wife, 6-year-old son and 3-month-old daughter came negative late night on 4th November.
Alas! What a birthday gift that I was about to develop antibodies for COVID 19!

My symptoms remained mild (I turned 36 on 2nd November) throughout my home quarantine and I tested negative on 10/11th November. However, the recovery process is still going on as of 17th November as I have fatigue, lethargy and some cough. Gargle with betadin and inhaling steam with vicks are a part of my life now.

This battle with COVID has been more mental for me than physical and I hope and pray that no one goes through the anxiety and stress I went through in the first 2 days.

My message to all would be to take all precautions like wearing mask, sanitizing hand etc but as in football we should always look for “the blind side” and be more careful at certain times when we are more relaxed.

GOD Bless and Take Care
