CHENNAI: All first class coaches in metro trains will be converted into women’s only coaches, starting November 23, to facilitate additional occupancy for women passengers, Chennai Metro Rail has announced.
This is in addition to existing women coaches in the trains.
In a release, CMRL said passengers travelling in these coaches would be charged regular fare, as in other coaches.
This change comes at a time when passengers are strictly monitored to follow social distancing while travelling in metro trains.
CMRL officials said additional measures had been taken for the safety of women passengers including installation of CCTV cameras at stations and in trains, women only toilets, customer care facility for assistance and deployment of security staff at all stations.
