COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Corporation officials on Thursday removed multiple encroachments in streets in Ram Nagar and Gandhipuram. They also removed around five illegal hoardings erected by multiple commercial establishments.
Many of the encroachments removed had been present for more than four years, said officials.
Based on continuing complaints, corporation commissioner Kumaravel Pandian ordered removal of encroachments by the Aavin outlet on Gandhipuram 10th Street and by a teashop in Sarojini Street.
The Aavin outlet had extended its shade and portico on to the main cart track. “This was affecting vehicle movement,” said a corporation official.
The teashop was established on top of the corporation’s drainage pipeline. “Despite multiple notices, the teashop was not closed down. This too was affecting vehicular movement,” said the official.
