Four held with counterfeit currency worth Rs 11.49 lakh in Thane

Thane, Nov 18 (UNI) The city police have arrested four people from Mumbra town and seized from them counterfeit currency worth Rs 11.49 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, a Crime Branch unit of the city police on Tuesday laid a trap near the petrol pump opposite the Mumbra railway station and nabbed the four when they arrived on the scene to exchange the currency of the denomination of Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2,000, police said on Wednesday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Muzzamil Mohammad Salhe Surve (40), Muzaffar Shoukat Pawaskar (41), Pravin Parmar (43) and Nasrin Imtiaz Kazi (41).
Of them, Surve and Kazi are from Mumbra while the other two are from Mumbai.
Police have seized seven mobile phones from the arrested accused, against whom offences under sections 489(a) and 489(C) of Indian Penal Code has been registered with the Mumbra police station.
Further probe into the crime was underway, sources added.
