GURUGRAM: Special police teams have been formed to identify and monitor banquet halls, lawns hosting ceremonies and hotels to ensure complete compliance with
Covid-19 protocols. In case of any violation, owners and managers will face action and the venue will also be sealed.
Moreover, it has been made mandatory for such places to share details about their bookings, including the number of people expected to attend, with Gurugram Police in advance, failing which an FIR can be lodged against them. The move comes in the wake of a spike in Covid cases during the festive and wedding season. “The numbers have gone up and it is necessary to monitor places of gathering and ensure compliance of pandemic guidelines. We will have to take hard steps,” said police commissioner K K Rao.
Rao said police teams have been asked to ensure people attending events at the venues follow
social distancing norms, wear masks and follow hand hygiene. Cops will also monitor events and functions organised in streets and the community centres of sectors and societies. “Our teams are regularly interacting with people managing these places and RWAs to ensure Covid norms are followed,” he said, adding people can alert cops if they come across any violation. Rao said it has been observed that crowds at marketplaces and social events have been careless about social distancing and wearing of masks. “This has emerged as a major reason for the rapid spread of the virus,” he said, adding that police patrolling has been increased. On Monday, police issued 1,172 challans to people for not wearing masks. Till now, 85,823 challans have been issued.
