PANAJI: Two persons were killed on Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run accident at Usgao. The accused is yet to be traced.
The victims were identified as Chandrakant Ravi Dali (19) and Alisha Fernandes (22), both residents of Pale, Bicholim.
The two Bicholim residents were employed at different workplaces in Ponda and were regularly travelling together on one scooter from their residence to work and back.
At around 9.15am on Wednesday, both Dali and Fernandes left as usual for work. The two deceased are unrelated and were only travelling together to work for economic reasons.
At Barazan in Usgao, on a one-way road, an unknown vehicle dashed into their scooter and ran from the spot. The two were found lying by passerbys.
Dali and Fernandes are believed to have died on the spot due to head injuries. They were shifted to the nearby Dharbandora primary health centre, where they were declared dead on arrival by doctors.
Police officials said that attempts are on to trace the unknown accused. Police believe, from the impact, that it is possibly a large vehicle like a truck that could have hit the deceased's scooter.
