Domestic dispute ends with officer-involved shooting that leaves a man dead, cops say
A man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition Tuesday after what Miami-Dade police are calling an officer-involved shooting.
The man later died from his injuries, police confirmed.
Miami-Dade police officers responded to the area of Northwest Miami Court and Northwest 171st Street Tuesday afternoon to a report of a verbal dispute between family members, according to Alvaro Zabaleta, a police spokesman.
When officers arrived, the family members were able to exit the home. A man, who had armed himself, holed up inside.
Miami Dade’s SRT (SWAT) officers responded, as did hostage negotiators, Zabaleta said.
At about 8 p.m., Zabaleta said officers gained entry and “there was a confrontation and shots were fired.”
There were no reports of injuries to officers. It was clear if the suspect fired or how many officers opened fire. A gun was recovered on the scene, Zabaleta said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting.
The shooting comes one day after a Broward Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man in the parking lot of a Dania Beach hotel.
