ACB produces supplementary chargesheet in Rs 223 cr loan scam in J&K

Srinagar, Nov 18 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has produced supplementary charge sheet in Rs 223 Crore loan scam of J&K State Coperative Bank (JKSCB) Srinagar in the court of Special Judge Anti Corruption against then Registrar and Deputy Registrar.
Then Registrar Mohammad Mujib-ur-Rehman Ghassi and then Deputy Registrar Ashiq Hussain were sent to Judicial custody by the Court, a spokesman of the ACB said.
He said the ACB produced a supplementary charge sheet against Ghassi and Hussain in the Rs 223 crore JKSCB scam.
Both accused were arrested prior to production of charge-sheet and produced in Court for production of charge-sheet. Both accused were remanded to Judicial custody by court, he said.
Giving case details, he said a case which was registered against Mohammad Shafi Dar, resident of Majeed Bagh Barzulla Srinagar chairman JKSCB Ltd and others u/s 5(1) (d) r/w Section 5(2) PC Act and sections 465,467,468,471,120-B/RPC in ACB Srinagar for allegedly sanctioning loan to the tune of Rs 250 crores in favour of a non-existent Society under the name and style River Jhelum Co-operative House Building Society Magarmal Bagh, Srinagar for the purposes of construction of a satellite Township at Shiv Pora Srinagar bypassing the Credit Policy of the bank and on the basis of false and fabricated documents.
He said ACB had already filed a charge sheet on November 8, 2020 against Dar the then Chairman of the Bank, Hilal Ahmad Mir Chairman and Abdul Hamid Hajam Secretary of the non-existent Co-operative Society. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
Investigation has further revealed that Ghassi and Hussain had issued a letter to J&K State Co-operative Bank under the signature of the Registrar despite knowing fully well that such a society did not exist after checking all the relevant office records.
On the receipt of letter loan to the tune of Rs 223 Crore was sanctioned in favour of the non existent Co-operative Society by the Bank headed by accused Dar, Chairman of the Bank.
He said investigation has further established that the agenda items of non existent society were also created on January 23, 2019 before the sanction and disbursement of loan to the tune of Rs 223 Crores.
He said the By-Laws of the Society were created on November 21, 2019 fictitiously by Dar Ex Chairman of Bank.
The next date of hearing in the Court has been fixed on November 23, 2020, he said.
