GUWAHATI: Hours after the election commission declared the dates for the polls to the 40 seats of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), BJP declared its constituency in-charges to monitor the election preparations. Till now, BJP has declared the names of 27 such in-charges.
The list of the in-charges include forest and environment minister Parimal Suklabaidya, minister of state (independent) for health and family welfare Piyush Hazarika and minister of state (independent charge) for irrigation department Bhabesh Kalita.
Meanwhile, the state BJP chief Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that the saffron party is committed to securing all the rights of the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). “BJP will work for the all-round development and secure the future of the people of the region,” he said during an election rally in Udalguri.
BJP spokesperson Lakhya Konwar said, “The huge gatherings in every meeting have proved the BJP’s wide acceptance in the BTR. And the party has gained such a wide acceptance only because of the good governance by the party at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in the state under the leadership of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.”
Slamming the previous council led by Bodoland People’s Front leader Hagrama Mohilary, Konwar said, “An atmosphere of uncertainty was created under the rule of Mohilary. But people can understand and analyse everything. After becoming aware of our development project, people have extended support to BJP. We will win the polls and form government with an absolute majority.”
He also alleged that the Mohilary administration was “corrupt at every level” while the saffron party has a “zero tolerance policy” towards graft.
