Proposal moved to shift archive copies of 4 talukas to Quepem: Kavlekar

Quepem: The Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar said that archive copies for Canacona, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Quepem will be kept in the new block of the Quepem Municipal Council building.

He said people from distant Canacona, Quepem Sanguem and Dharbandora face a lot of hardship adding that he as a minister has moved a proposal to shift the archives of these four talukas to Quepem. He said some of the records date back to the 14th century and are in Portuguese, and once implemented will come as a big relief to the people of these four talukas.

He said the co-operative movement is the backbone of the economy alongside tourism and mining as it has potential of creating employment in the rural sector adding that the co-operative sector is mostly driven by agricultural sector with farmers turning to co-operative societies for finances.

He said the government is working to simplify the process of giving subsidies to farmers so that they don’t face difficulties.

Speaking at the function the Minister for Co-operation Govind Gaude said the agriculture and co-operative movement go hand-in-hand and called upon those who have borrowed from co-operative societies to repay the loans as this is the money from mostly farmers he said. He said some of the loan dates back to nearly 20 years and people have to be paid back adding every effort will be put in place to strengthen the co-operative movement in the state.
