Soldier killed, 2 injured after avalanche hit Army post in Kupwara

Srinagar, Nov 18 (UNI) A soldier was killed and two others were injured when a snow avalanche hit an Army post at Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said on Wednesday.

They said a snow avalanche swept away a forward post “ Roshan” on Tuesday at 2000 hrs. Three soldiers in the post were buried under the snow, they said adding rescue operation was immediately launched.

Later all the three soldiers identified as rifleman Nikhil Sharma, Ramesh Chand and Gurvinder Singh of 7 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were rescued and shifted to hospital, sources said adding Nikhil was declared brought dead.

The Disaster Management had recently issued an avalanche warning in upper reaches in Kupwara, Ganderbal, Baramulla and Bandipora after moderate to heavy snowfall for three days from Saturday.

The state will now impart Sanskrit language training to teachers of primary and secondary schools in the state in association with Sanskrit Sansthan and State Educational Research Training Council (SERTC).
