Kerala reports 6,419 new COVID cases, 7,066 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 18 (UNI) Kerala on Wednesday reported 6,419 new cases of novel coronavirus while 7,066 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
The minister, in a press release here this evening said, "Total 5,576 were locally transmitted cases with the contact source unknown for 677. There were 68 medical personnel among those infected."
Meanwhile, 28 more deaths were confirmed today (Wednesday) due to Covid, taking the death toll in the State to 1,943, she added.

She said 67,369 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 9.53 per cent. So far, a total of 56,21,634 samples have been sent for testing.

The district-wise figures for those who tested positive on Wednesday with Coronavirus infection are Ernakulam 887, Kozhikode 811, Thrissur 703, Kollam 693, Alappuzha 637, Malappuram 507, Thiruvananthapuram 468, Palakkad 377, Kottayam 373, Idukki 249, Pathanamthitta 234, Kannur 213, Wayanad 158 and Kasaragod 109. Of those diagnosed, 98 have travelled to the state from outside.

The count of those infected through contact in districts are Ernakulam 658, Kozhikode 721, Thrissur 680, Kollam 686, Alappuzha 624, Malappuram 474, Thiruvananthapuram 346, Palakkad 235, Kottayam 372, Idukki 209, Pathanamthitta 169, Kannur 153, Wayanad 148 and Kasaragod 101.

The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 19, Kozhikode & Kannur 11 each, Thiruvananthapuram & Pathanamthitta 5 each, Thrissur & Palakkad 4 each, Idukki 3, and Kollam, Wayanad & Kasaragod 2 each.

The district-wise numbers of the patients who tested negative on Wednesday are Thiruvananthapuram 579, Kollam 577, Pathanamthitta 226, Alappuzha 368, Kottayam 776, Idukki 185, Ernakulam 720, Thrissur 793, Palakkad 624, Malappuram 661, Kozhikode 920, Wayanad 76, Kannur 376 and Kasaragod 185.

At present, there are 69,394 patients undergoing treatment while a total of 4,68,460 have so far recovered from Covid in the State.

There are currently 3,18,833 people under isolation in various districts of the state - 3,02,330 under home or institutional quarantine and 16,503 in hospitals. Total 2,111 persons were hospitalised today.

Six places spread over Palakkad, Kottayam and Thrissur districts were declared as hotspots today even as 18 areas were exempted. There are 587 hotspots in Kerala now.
