UT allows higher institutes, Public libraries to re-open from Nov 23

CHANDIGARH: In a latest notification issued on Wednesday, Department of higher education UT Chandigarh has allowed higher institutes to call final year undergraduate and postgraduate students for academic and placement purposes from November 23 onwards. Department has also allowed opening of public libraries from November 23.
Referring to Ministry of Home Affairs’ orders dated September 30 and UGC guidelines dated November 5, 2020 for reopening the Universities and Colleges Post Lockdown due to COVID-19 Pandemic education department has decided to reopen.
In the letter issued by director higher education Rubinderjit Singh brar stated that “After considering the letters issued by MHA and UGC, it has been decided to re-open Higher Educational Institutions and Colleges in Chandigarh from November 23 onwards. Hwoeever the reopening is subject to certain details.”
As per the letter issued by the department, “final year students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses may be allowed to join the institutes for academic and placement purposes from November 203 that is Monday.”
Also teaching and non-teaching staff will regularly attend the institutes as per office timings fixed by the respective Head of the Institutes.
Brar shared that hostels may also be allowed to re-open from December 1 that is Tuesday “only in such cases where it is necessary as per the direction of the Head of the Institute subject to adhere of SOP's issued by UGC.”
Institutes have been asked to adopt UGC guidelines as per their local needs or conditions and head of the Institutes will be responsible to ensure compliance of instructions of MHA-Government of India, Ministry of Education, UGC and Chandigarh Administration issued from time to time.
Each institute will develop their own detailed SOP for re-opening of campuses keeping in view the safety and health of the students and staff, Brar said.
On the other hand librarians of the Public libraries too have been asked to ensure compliance of all SOPs and guidelines.
