The Congress on Tuesday raised the issue of security of its leaders before the election authorities of Jammu and Kashmir and said that its leaders should be provided minimum security before the District Development Council (DDC) elections to be held in the Union Territory.
It is noteworthy that elections have been announced in eight phases for 20 DDCs of Jammu and Kashmir and these elections will be held between 28 November and 22 December. This will be the first major election after the abolition of the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article-370 of the Constitution in August last year.
Chief spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Congress Ravindra Sharma said, "We have requested the Election Commission to provide minimum security to our leaders. We have raised the issue of security concerns with the Election Commission. ”He said that very little security has been provided to opposition leaders.
