Parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga can expect severe thunderstorms on Thursday, according to the South African Weather Service, bringing with them damaging winds and hail.

Impact-based warning

There is a Yellow Level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail, flooding and excessive lightning can be expected in places over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal and eastern parts of Mpumalanga.

It will be partly cloudy and warm to hot in Gauteng.

Mpumalanga will be partly cloudy and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated over the Lowveld where it will be hot.

In Limpopo, it will be partly cloudy and hot to very hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers over the southern parts and the Western Bushveld.

The North West will be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the eastern parts.

The Free State will be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

Conditions in the Northern Cape will be partly cloudy in the south, otherwise fine warm, but hot in the north.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly.

The Western Cape will be partly cloudy to cloudy in the west in the morning, becoming sunny and cool to warm, otherwise cloudy with rain and showers in the east in the morning, but persisting along the south coast and adjacent interior towards the evening.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly along the south coast, otherwise strong.

The expected UVB sunburn index is extreme.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy and cool with isolated rain and showers, but scattered in the east, clearing from the west in the afternoon.

The wind along the coast will be light southerly, becoming south-easterly from the west.

The eastern half of the Eastern Cape will be cloudy and cool with scattered to widespread showers, but isolated in the north-west where it will be partly cloudy.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal will be cloudy and cool, but cold in the south-west with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly to southerly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is low.
