BRICS Conference: PM Modi and Jinping to be face-to-face again amidst border dispute

On Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 12th BRICS (BRICS) summit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The summit will be held on 17 November through virtual means. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, and Russian President Vladimir Putin will also be part of this virtual meeting.

The BRICS conference is taking place at a time when the border dispute between its two main members is at its peak. Tension has continued between India and China on the eastern Ladakh border since May. The result of the tension has been that violent clashes have also taken place between the soldiers of the two countries. However, both forces are currently working on a proposal to retreat.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping met face to face during a November 10 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. At the same time, after the BRICS conference, both the leaders are to meet again in the G-20 meeting on 21 and 22 November.

What is the theme this time?

The ministry said that this time the theme of the conference will be 'Global stability, shared security and innovative development'. Explain that in the organization of BRICS countries there are five fast-emerging economies. These include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The Ministry stated in this regard that the 12th BRICS Summit is being held in the backdrop of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations and the Kovid-19 global epidemic. In this, the leaders of member countries will discuss the key issues of the global scenario and mutual cooperation.

It also includes improvements in multilateral system measures to mitigate the effects of the Kovid-19 epidemic. Apart from this, cooperation in the war against terrorism, trade, health, energy, and people-to-people exchanges will also be discussed at the summit.

India to be chaired for next BRICS summit

The ministry said, "India will be chaired for the next BRICS summit in the meeting." India will host the 13th BRICS Summit to be held in 2021. Earlier India has chaired the BRICS countries summits in 2012 and 2016. '

The BRICS summit is taking place at a time when the deadlock persists following a violent clash between its two main member countries, India and China, six months ago on the border in East Ladakh. Now both sides are working on a proposal to repel troops from high altitude areas.
